The Volvo EX90 sharp shoulder line and “Thor hammer” headlights are reminiscent of its predecessor, but the EX90 is an altogether different machine beneath the skin. It rides on the same pure-electric SPA2 platform as the Polestar 3, and comes with a choice of two dual-motor powertrain options.
A major focus of the EX90 has been on the safety features, software and hardware that underpins the machine. Most notably, it will feature a Lidar as standard – it will be an option on the Polestar 3 – with the sensor mounted on the front edge of the roof. That will complement a range of other interior and exterior sensors and cameras to power advanced driver assistance and safety systems.
There’s no fake plastic grille like you get on a BMW iX or a Mercedes EQS SUV – instead, the EX90 looks very smooth and minimalist. From the side, the silhouette is very similar to the current XC90. The Volvo has flush door handles like on that car though. But the creases on the bottom of the doors look very similar to the ones on the smaller XC40 and C40.
